Upcoming Screenings:

Decades of Arab Latin Cinema

Doha Film Institute is proud to present 'Decades of Arab Latin Cinema', a programme that brings together two regions connected by a shared history of migration, resilience, and cultural exchange. Presented in collaboration with Cine Fértil, the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Federal University of Sergipe, and UNESCO’s Arab Latinos initiative, the series forms part of the Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture.

Through a curated selection of works spanning fiction and documentary, the programme traces the evolution of Arab–Latin American encounters on screen, from the first cinematic reflections on migration in the mid-20th century to contemporary explorations of identity, memory, and belonging. It highlights how Arab-descendant filmmakers reclaim their heritage while Latin American directors reflect on Arab and Islamic cultures within their societies.

This unique dialogue offers more than a historical record; it reveals cinema’s role as a bridge between cultures, an archive of lived experience, and a platform for solidarity. By balancing works from Argentina and Chile with voices from across the wider region, the programme affirms filmmaking's ability to honour the past while opening new spaces of connection and understanding.

A talk by the programme's co-curators, Geraldo Campos and Christian Mouroux, will precede this screening.
