After a Montreal elementary school teacher commits suicide, Monsieur Lazhar, an Algerian immigrant seeking political refuge in Quebec takes her place. Canadian director Philippe Falardeau started his career by shooting twenty short films as part of the popular competitive TV series ‘La course destination monde’ in 1988. Afterwards Falardeau co-wrote a documentary in 1996 by name of ‘Le sort de l'Amérique’ and directed another documentary on the Chinese immigration in Canada by the name of ‘Pâté chinois’ in 1997 which was presented at the Montrea
