The New Voices in Cinema Short Film Programme is a collection of short films funded by the Institute. It presents personal perspectives on issues surrounding migration, occupation and interpersonal relationships, telling intimate stories within the varied contexts of the Arab world.

About the Director

Nicolas Damuni
Nicolas Damuni studied cinema in Beirut. He has worked as a director, editor, colourist and special-effects creator on several projects in France and the Middle East. In 2005, his work was selected for the Mediterranean Films Crossing Borders festival and, in 2006, he was selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus.
Odette Makhlouf Mouarkech
Odette Makhlouf Mouarkech obtained her Diploma in Cinema from USEK in 2000 and a Master’s degree in Cinema Studies from Paris 8 in 2004. ‘The Wall’ won the Best Short Film Scenario Award from Metropolis and was selected for the delegation of the European Union to Lebanon at the 17th European Film Festival.
Ehab Tarabieh
Ehab Tarabieh was born in Majdal Shams, a small village in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. Growing up under Israeli military occupation, Tarabieh was politically active at very young age. He studied classical violin at the Conservatory for Classical Music in Damascus before relocating to the Czech Republic to study film. Nadia Rais
Nadia Raïs was born in Tunis. She has a master’s degree in Art Science and Techniques. She has been involved in many artistic exhibitions, residing at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2012-2013) and has made several animated short films including ‘L’Ambouba’, ‘L’Mrayet’, ‘Survival Visa’ and ‘Briska’. Abdullah Al-Mulla
Abdullah Al-Mulla grew up in Qatar until moving abroad to pursue his university studies. He became involved in film through the Doha Film Institute, where he has worked on numerous short films since 2013. He wrote and directed the short film ‘Old Airport Road’ (2014), which explores the theme of care, and 'Yellow Nights' (2015), a seven-minute, single-shot film. Currently, Al-Mulla is working on ‘
