Layla is a 60-year-old refugee relocated to the seaside town of Margate with her undocumented granddaughter, Ritaj. Sharing a room in a halfway house for refugees, she works as a cleaner at Dreamland Amusement Park and struggles to build a connection with her new surroundings. When she meets Femi, a young boy who teaches her to skateboard, her confidence begins to grow, but as the residents of the halfway house begin to be relocated by the city’s council, the very real threat of her undocumented granddaughter being discovered causes her to unravel. Afraid of what will happen, Layla and Femi try to hide her away and sneak her into Dreamland.
