He holds a degree in archaeology and arts from the Lebanese University (1984) and trained in archaeological excavation with the University of London at the Tel Nebi Mend (‘Qadesh’) site in Homs, Syria. He began as a researcher in material culture, crafts and folk industries at the Folk Heritage Centre for the Arab Gulf States in 1985, later heading its collection and documentation section. He went on to lead the Folk Arts and Crafts and the Antiquities sections at Qatar's National Council for Culture, Arts and Heritage, and served as Director of Museums and Antiquities at Qatar Museums Authority. Al Blouchi directed the State of Qatar pavilions at Expo Shanghai 2010, Expo Milan 2015, Expo Astana 2017 and Expo 2020 Dubai, and served as international relations advisor at the office of the Minister of Culture and Sports. He is currently a heritage expert in the Heritage and Identity Department at the Ministry of Culture. His publications include co-edited volumes documenting Qatari heritage, among them ‘Traditional Qatari Dhows’, ‘Pearl Diving in Qatar: Documentation and Authentication’ (two volumes), ‘Qatar in the Arab Press’, ‘Pioneers of Knowledge and Education in Qatar’ and ‘A Summary of the Pearl Account Ledger’, published with the Katara Cultural Village Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
