She has held lead roles with major Tunisian directors, including Nouri Bouzid’s ‘Making Of’ and ‘The Scarecrows’, and more recently in ‘Streams’ by Mehdi Hmili, for which she received Best Actress at Cairo International Film Festival (2021) and later at Vues d’Afrique and Pluriel.les (2023). She founded Mésanges Films and produced Bouzid’s ‘The Scarecrows’, which premiered in Venice (Sconfini, 2019) and won the Human Rights Award. She co-produced and co-directed, with Khalil Benkirane, her first feature, ‘Backstage’, which premiered in competition at Giornate degli Autori, Venice 2023, winning the Cinema & Arts Award. Afef holds master’s degrees in Economics and Management and in Directing and Screenwriting, followed by a Master of Research in Image Design.
