She holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and a Master's degree in Film Direction from ESCAC in Barcelona, and has studied filmmaking in Kazakhstan, the UAE and Spain, with training at the New York Film Academy. She has participated in international film labs and programmes including Doha Film Institute, KAFA, Cinedoc Tbilisi, La Fémis, IDFA Academy, Doc Interaction, and Berlinale Talents. Her series project was selected for Torino Film Lab Next Series and won at Series Bridges Lab Central Asia. Her debut feature documentary, ‘Gingerbread for Her Dad’, premiered in the Wide Angle section of the Busan International Film Festival in 2024 and screened at festivals including Torino, Bolzano, Madurai, Kazan and Saint Louis. Its awards include Best Film at the Iran International Film Festival, the Critical Lens and Audience Awards at the Asian American Film Festival, Brilliant Debut Film at Bastau, and Best Documentary at Korkyt Ata Film Festival. In its recent theatrical release, it became the first documentary in Kazakhstan's history to remain in cinemas for six consecutive weeks. Alina’s short documentary ‘Ander’, made under the mentorship of Rithy Panh during the Doha Film Institute doc lab, won Best Documentary Film in Qatar at the 2020 Ajyal Film Festival (currently the Doha Film Festival), and her short ‘Rescue Masha’ screened at the Istanbul and Changing Perspective film festivals.
