This hands-on filmmaking workshop is designed for emerging filmmakers looking to sharpen their storytelling skills by embracing creative limitations. Over two months, participants will write, direct, and produce their own short fiction films—each limited to a single location, one to two characters, and a 5–7-minute runtime. The aim is to explore how constraints can fuel creativity, leading to emotionally rich and impactful stories told with authenticity and clarity.
Led by acclaimed director Raphael Chipperfield, the workshop places a strong emphasis on observational, human-centred narratives and raw, improvisational performances. Participants will be encouraged to focus on directing actors, capturing compelling moments, and shaping stories that resonate deeply—prioritizing emotional truth over technical polish.
The format is hybrid, combining online sessions, in-person meetings, and flexible email-based mentorship to accommodate the different phases of the filmmaking process. Whether brainstorming your concept, preparing for your shoot, or navigating post-production, this workshop is designed to offer structured guidance and creative freedom.
Format: Hybrid (online, in-person and email correspondence)
Timing: Varies across development, production and post-production phases. Sessions are scheduled to accommodate participants outside of working hours.
Eligibility: Intermediate-level filmmakers (ages 18–25) with prior experience in the film industry
