Two sons of the same man compete for their father’s approval on a crocodile-hunting expedition until his death forces them to confront the image they had of him.
In western Cuba, Joaquín lives with his mother, Carmen, waiting for Raúl, his father, a man consumed by crocodile hunting in the swamp. When Joaquín returns home injured once again, he witnesses his parents arguing about his inability to defend himself. That night, Raúl announces that Joaquín must accompany him on his next hunt in order to man up. On the road, Joaquín is surprised when Javier, his half-brother and abuser, joins the trip. Raúl sets out with Joaquín and Javier on a hunting expedition in the swamp, where he tries to teach them his craft and bring them closer. While Joaquín strives to make his father proud, Javier wants to prove that he does not need him. In this game of interests, the boys compete for Raúl’s approval but, in a physical encounter, end up killing him by accident. Dragging Raúl’s body through the swamp back home, Joaquín and Javier recognise their father in themselves and each other. Trapped by a crocodile, Joaquín convinces Javier to hand over his father’s body as bait to escape. Finally, they run away and reach the road, where they return home in the back of a truck.
