Amal and Yousef hope for a happy family life after Ibrahim’s release from prison. However, Ibrahim’s past pains and struggles with reality threaten their dreams.
Amal Jawadat believes she’s finally getting the happy ending she’s always dreamed of. A Palestinian wedding videographer with a knack for capturing other people’s joy, Amal has awaited her husband Ibrahim’s release from an Israeli prison for over a decade. She and her nine-year-old son Yousef, a child conceived under extraordinary circumstances, believe that when Ibrahim finally comes home, their family will become whole for the first time. But the Ibrahim who emerges from prison is a different man than the one Amal married. Intimidated by his wife’s success and struggling to connect with his son, Ibrahim fixates on the past.
Amal is now faced with protecting the family’s future and property. Amal and Ibrahim’s family plan to build a new home for everyone, but for that to happen, they must arrive at a compromise to obtain the permits. Ibrahim rejects any interaction with the Israeli authorities in East Jerusalem; the same applies to registering his son in his ID. Battles shake the core of the family, and Amal has to be careful; she has to make Ibrahim realize the price he must pay to become a father and a husband.
