Beirut, 2020. A year after Lebanon’s economy collapsed, the banks have frozen every account. Maro, a determined single mother, needs her savings to pay for her wild-hearted younger sister Dalia’s life-saving surgery, but the bank refuses. So the sisters plan a daring all-night heist to take back what is rightfully theirs, recruiting a former militiaman and a hot-headed truck driver along the way, in a city already teetering on the brink.
During Lebanon’s real-life, corruption-fuelled economic collapse, the banks freeze accounts overnight, trapping the life savings of millions. In Beirut, Maro, a determined single mother, needs her own money to pay for her wild-hearted younger sister Dalia’s life-saving surgery. When the bank refuses, the sisters scheme an elaborate all-night heist to reclaim what is rightfully theirs, with Dalia talking her way into the staff bathrooms and Maro mapping the building in her son’s Lego. As they recruit Sunshine, a former militiaman still haunted by the civil war, and Hamza, a truck driver in debt to the wrong people, their plan sets off a chain of events that quickly spirals out of control in a city already on the brink.

The film began with a text Rami Kodeih sent a friend in 2019, when his own savings were frozen and his wife and co-writer, Nora Mariana, needed surgery the bank would not let them pay for: “Do I need to write a heist movie about me stealing my own money back?” Executive produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov, his feature debut turns that fantasy into a character-driven crime story about ordinary people taking their destiny into their own hands, and a celebration of the bonds of family.
