Made in Mexico - Short Films Programme
Inspired by the Afro-Mexican hero Gaspar Yanga, this shadow-puppet tale follows a man kidnapped from Africa and enslaved in colonial Mexico, who dreams of leading others to freedom.
During the colonial era, Nyanga is kidnapped off the coast of West Africa and brought to Mexico. All he wants is to escape and return home, but instead he is sold at the slave market and forced to work on his master’s plantation. Still, he never stops thinking about freedom. Then, in a dream, he is called to organise an uprising and an escape that will not take them home, but will let them put down roots in new lands.
