Haunted by nostalgia for a place they have never known, gallery workers steal a colonial landscape painting and drive towards the sea. The image begins to take hold of them.
A group of gallery workers steal a Mooi Indië landscape painting, part of a colonial tradition that rendered the Indies as serene, tropical and picturesque. Drawn by its strange pull, they drive towards the sea. Keroncong drifts through the air like a spell, archival figures surface as living presences, and what began as a theft becomes a passage through trance and inherited memory. The painting no longer seems like something they have taken. It begins to take hold of them.
