Beirut, in the aftermath of the Israeli bombardment. In a Palestinian refugee camp, a young first responder with the civil defence spends an ordinary night playing cards with his friends, trading jokes about girlfriends and the camp’s shiny new ambulance. But beneath the banter, he cannot separate his daily life from what he has seen in the rubble, and the martyrs he helped to recover. At home, his mother asks him to sing for her.
