After her father’s execution, 12-year-old Jamileh must fight to prevent an early marriage and keep her undocumented Afghan family together in Iran
In the outskirts of a small Iranian town, we follow the story of 12-year-old Jamileh, who struggles to keep her undocumented Afghan family together after her father’s arrest. Jamileh and her younger siblings collect and recycle waste, desperately trying to raise enough money to hire a lawyer who might save their father from imminent execution on drug-trafficking charges.

Even though they know the amount needed is far beyond their means, they hold steadfast in their belief that their father is innocent and must come home. After his execution, Jamileh finds herself torn between grief and responsibility, leaving her childhood behind.
