Tangier. Smuggler Amira Ouazzani raises Dollar and Assil alone. Assil’s rise in the cannabis world pulls the family from the Rif towards Spain, towards an inevitable, tragic fate.
Tangier. Amira Ouazzani is a local legend: a mother, a lover and a cigarette smuggler. She raises her two sons alone—Assil, the eldest, who lives only to impress her, and Dollar, the beloved favourite. The brothers move through life as one. Assil’s temper soon catches the attention of Mountassir, a powerful cannabis baron. Taken to the Rif mountains, the Ouazzani brothers enter a world carved by fear and violence. Assil rises fast, gaining the trust of Mountassir and his Spanish partner, Saval. Back in Tangier, Amira meets Saval. A love story begins. But Assil wants more. He dreams of Europe. Mountassir crushes his ambition, igniting Amira’s fury. She plots to dethrone the baron. With an army of tough peasants, the “Hashishins”, the Ouazzanis launch a decisive attack on the Rif. They win, but Dollar is killed, and the family’s heart breaks. Assil becomes the new emir, exiled in Marbella, hunted by the authorities and jealous of his mother’s love for Saval. Convinced of betrayal, he storms Amira and Saval’s wedding and kills the groom. Arrested, he is stabbed to death by his own guards—a modern Caesar. Amira survives them all. With a heart shattered and rebuilt a thousand times, she continues to rule the network alone.
