Marie flees with her children to reunite with her husband in exile. Struggling with displacement, she chooses to return home to southern Lebanon, risking everything to reclaim her life.
In 2000, in a southern Lebanese village under Israeli occupation, Marie is pregnant with her third child. Her husband, Khalil, works in a minor position with the Israeli-backed militia. He is bitten by a guard dog and taken to an Israeli hospital in occupied Palestine for treatment. Communication between the couple is lost, and Marie faces a life-changing choice: either stay in her homeland, separated from her husband, or leave with her children to reunite the family. As time runs out, Marie departs reluctantly, but their new life offers no real comfort. They are outsiders in an unfamiliar place. She gives birth, and Khalil finds work in waste collection. Marie grows distant from her husband as she fails to adapt to her new life. The question of returning home surfaces, a possibility that had not existed before. Khalil knows what awaits him, but Marie insists. Back in Lebanon, Khalil is sent to prison, while Marie starts a small snack business.
