In this special episode of the eight-part documentary series ‘ElZam’, a group of falconers sets out on a hunting expedition, carrying a tradition that has long been a source of pride in Qatar, the Gulf and the wider Arab world. There is no voiceover. The falconers tell their own stories, around the fire, on the hunt and in long silences broken by a wingbeat, in a close, cinematic portrait of a living heritage.
Falconry has long been a source of pride in Qatar, the Gulf and the wider Arab world, a tradition handed down through generations and lived most fully far from the city, out in the wild. ‘Elzam’, an eight-part documentary series, follows a group of falconers on their hunting expeditions and through their everyday lives, and this special episode takes audiences alongside them. Filmed to stay true to the falconers’ own experience, it captures details and moments rarely seen at such close quarters: the hunt itself, life in the wild, and the conversations that unfold around the fire at the end of the day.

The series began with a simple conviction. That the strength of this tradition lies in its human details and in the people who live it every day, not in information told from the outside. So, there is no voiceover. The falconers are both the subjects and the storytellers, and viewers learn as they would in the field, through a passing conversation, an encounter on the hunt or a long silence broken by a wingbeat. Shot with cinematic camerawork and high production values, ‘Elzam’ offers a contemporary portrait of a living heritage, conveying its beauty with honesty and authenticity.
