When Fariha, a 70-year-old singer from Yemen, meets young filmmaker Badr, the two embark on a journey to relaunch her long-lost singing career.
Fariha, a 70-year-old woman from Yemen whose name means joy, stepped out of the limelight of a burgeoning singing career in the 1980s after a series of setbacks in a male-dominated society and industry. She had sung alongside Abu Bakr Salem, Ahmed Fathi and Karama Mursal. When filmmaker Badr Yousef stumbles upon her singing in her kiosk in downtown Sana’a, he insists on following her with his camera, and tries to convince her back onto a stage.
