Once again, the Ajyal Youth Film Festival is pleased to celebrate the exciting state of filmmaking at home with our annual slate of work made right here in Qatar. This year, we present two programmes of shorts, including narratives, documentaries and thoughtful essays.
‘There Be Dragons’  is a visual amble through Doha that uncovers a quirky, alternate side of the city that usually goes unnoticed – one that seems outside the control of its inhabitants.
‘There Be Dragons’ – a term that refers to unexplored territory on a map – is a visual amble through Doha that uncovers a quirky, alternate side of the city that usually goes unnoticed. Flickering lights, eerie kites in flight, the random revolutions of a funhouse ride and self-playing pianos suggest a metropolis that lives a life of its own – one that seems well outside the control of its inhabitants.

About the Director

Suzannah Mirghani
Suzannah Mirghani is a Sudanese-Russian writer, researcher, and media studies/museum studies graduate. Her short film ‘Al-Sit’ (2020), screening on Netflix Middle East, won the Canal+ Award at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival in 2021, among other prizes. Suzannah's recent short films include ‘Virtual Voice’ (2021, premiered at Tribeca Film Festival) and the short documentary ‘Kamala Ibrahim Isha
