Made in Qatar - Short Films Programme
On a desert trip in Qatar, an ageing grandfather seeks to protect his grandson from an eerie presence in the dark, in a short inspired by a Qatari folktale.
The day before his grandson Khaled leaves for university abroad, Jeddi takes him on one last trip into the Qatari desert. As night falls and the two sit by the campfire, a strange light appears in the darkness and begins to draw Khaled away. It is Abu Fanoos, the man with the lantern of Gulf folklore, a jinn whose glow leads travellers astray. His own health failing, Jeddi sets out into the dark to bring his grandson home.
