Through this journey, he learns the value of face-to-face communication and reconnects with his family. Khalid (14) takes his family—especially his grandfather—for granted. One day, while at the beach and absorbed in his mobile screen, Khalid fails to notice his sister drowning until it’s too late. In his attempt to rescue her, he is instead saved by Qatari pearl divers in colonial Doha. The year is 1930. In a civilisation devoid of the technological comforts he relies on, Khalid must learn to communicate and depend on the kindness of others to survive. He forms an unexpected bond with a Pearling Captain, who mentors him in the importance of compassion and valuing one’s family. Khalid’s newfound compassion is put to the test when his modern knowledge becomes the key to helping the Captain save his family from financial ruin.
