Rusmee keeps talking to her dead husband, who now exists as an AI chatbot. Then Fa arrives, the woman who cared for him, carrying memories the house has not released.
Rusmee keeps interacting with Chalerm, her dead husband, in the form of an AI chatbot. Only with the arrival of Fa, Chalerm’s former caretaker, are the memories inhabiting the house released, and loss finally accepted. Domenico Singha Pedroli drew on his own Thai grandmother, who appears here as herself and through an actress, the doubling standing in for what dementia does to time. Fa carries the film’s heart, a tribute to caretakers who vanish when the work ends.
